Galveston Architectural Heritage Tour
Galveston is truly a “Treasure Island” when it comes to our rich architectural heritage. The Island boasts beautiful examples of commercial buildings, churches, grand mansions, and simple family houses. GHF Preservation Services staffer Matt Farragher will lead guided tours showcasing these gorgeous buildings and the stories behind them on Saturdays throughout June. Matt will share his knowledge on Galveston’s buildings, the people who designed and built them, and also how they fit into the Island’s overall history. The tours will focus on the East End and the Strand/Mechanic National Historic Landmark Districts and should take a little over an hour to complete. Viewing of the Hurricane Ike tree sculptures will also be included. Join us for a fun, leisurely tour of the Island’s architectural history and learn a few things about what makes Galveston so great.
Tour will depart from Ashton Villa Visitor's Center at 2328 Broadway. Free parking is available behind the house.
Saturday: May 25, June 8, June 16, June 22, June 29. No tour on June 1.
Tours take place at 10 am and 12:30 pm. Cost is $15 per person.
Please visit the shop at www.galvestonhistory.org to purchase tickets.
